Give a Brief Description of your entrance into Leather and/or Kink Found POC BDSM groups online followed suggestion to find my local BDSM within a couple months
What was your local scene like when you were starting? How is it now, by comparison? Very large, diverse, and education based, and welcoming.
Who’s the most influential Black person. In your life and why? My 91 year old father because of the examples he set with his accomplishments as a father, devoted husband head of household, and teacher.
What book have you read that influenced your life and why? Alcoholics Anonymous. Helped me find God and sobriety 33 years ago
Talk about one of your favorite experiences in your local Kink and/or Leather Community. Walking into the Lair De Sade dungeon in LA for a BDSM Class and finding out and meeting the owner a Black Male domianant named Kane

Were there any other Black leather folks around in the leather scene when you came into the scene/community? Yes
If so, did you find that you gravitated more towards each other? If not, how did this affect your experience? Did you build your own community? Say more about your experience. Somewhat. Most Black Het males were not very active in the Leather community most hung out in the Pansexual BDSM community. I worked work getting more Blacks to get involved and active in the real-time BDSM/Kink community with the Black BEAT Munch and the LAKES group
Do you think being Black has hampered your experience in the leather/kink community at all? No
If it has, what kind of things did you do to try and remedy those issues? If it hasn’t, please describe. N/A
Is there a specific instance where you feel your Blackness enhanced your experience in Leather? No

What is a specific challenge you had coming up in Leather that was unrelated to race/ethnicity? Being a Het male in Leather comes with issues of perceptions that are always good because bad seeds some have sewn before me.
How do you find you’re treated in the Leather community vs. the greater LGBT community? With caution in some places being a het male
Do you feel that the leather community and embracing blackness has a positive outlook? Maybe
Please explain your previous response. People are people. Some will be embracing while others will never embrace us.
What advice would you give to newcomers in the Leather scene who are Black? Do you and never give up your kink desires because of others.
